    3. Describe the size, shape and border of the lesion
    4. Describe the effect of the lesion to the surrounding structures

  • What is the purpose of a periapical radiograph?

Periapical radiographs are used to detect any abnormalities of the root structure and surrounding bone structure.
There are two types of techniques used for periapical radiographs: bisecting angle, and paralleling..

  • Bitewings show most of the tooth, but if your dentist needs a good look at the very entirety of your tooth or the jawbone, a periapical X-Ray is a better choice.
This type of X-ray captures an image of the entire tooth, including a little past the tooth root.
