Sedation is sometimes required in order to get a clear x-ray.
If your cat is calm, not in too much pain, and able to lay in a comfortable position while the x-ray is being taken, sedation will not be necessary.
On the other hand, if your cat is squirmy, edgy, or in pain sedation will be recommended..

How do they do X-rays on cats?

Cat x-rays usually proceed as follows:

1. The cat is placed on the x-ray table
2. A technician positions the x-ray machine so that the x-ray beam targets only the area of interest
3. One or two technicians remain with the patient ensuring they stay still and are comfortable
