Bleeding is common after your tooth extraction but should stop once the blood clot forms. Depending on the tooth removed or the complexity of the procedure, it may bleed for a few minutes up to a few hours until the formation of a blood clot occurs.
Bleeding after a tooth extraction is
normal and slight bleeding may be noticed for
up to 24 hours after surgery. Use the gauze that was provided to you, and bite down with firm pressure for one hour. You should remove the gauze gently. It may be necessary to take a sip of water to moisten the gauze if it feels stuck to the tissue.
Oozing pus, light bleeding, or having red saliva is usually expected in the first 3 days after the operation. If the bleeding persists, stay calm and use gauze on the area to stop the bleeding. Put the gauze in place and bite firmly for about 30 minutes. The gauze should be moistened with cold water to prevent it from absorbing any blood.
Take one cup of lukewarm water and add ½ tablespoon of salt in it and swish. Make it a point to continue it until the surgical site gets recovered completely. Smoking cigarettes after a dental surgery can certainly elevate the bleeding. It can dislodge the blood clot at the surgical site and can extend the healing period as well.
