Exercising immediately after any surgery is generally not a good idea. While you might think oral surgery is different because it's located in your mouth, the reality is that strenuous exercise slows your body's ability to heal and puts you at risk of complications. Rest is vital for ensuring a speedy recovery.
Take a few days at a time of light exercise before you resume normal activities, including sports. Reintroduce exercise slowly and pay attention to how you feel as you do. After you are fully healed, then you may begin to push yourself with endurance training and/or lifting heavier weights.
When you no longer require narcotic pain medication you can engage in light physical activity, such as lifting light weights or light exercise like walking or other low-impact activities. When you resume exercising, it's important to refrain from any heavy lifting or high-intensity exercises.
