Descriptive statistics overview

Descriptive statistics is a branch of mathematics that deals with collecting, organizing, summarizing, analyzing and interpreting data. It is used to describe the characteristics of a group of data, such as the mean, median and mode. Descriptive statistics can also be used to identify relationships and trends in data.Descriptive statistics refers to the analysis, summary, and communication of findings that describe a data set. Often not useful for decision-making, descriptive statistics still hold value in explaining high-level summaries of a set of information such as the mean, median, mode, variance, range, and count of information.The term “descriptive statistics” refers to the analysis, summary, and presentation of findings related to a data set derived from a sample or entire population. Descriptive statistics comprises three main categories – Frequency Distribution, Measures of Central Tendency, and Measures of Variability.
