Design and analysis of single plate clutch

  • How is a clutch designed?

These clutches are usually made up of a stack of alternating friction plates and steel plates.
The friction plates have lugs on their outer diameters that lock them into a basket that is turned by the crankshaft.
The steel plates have lugs on their inner diameters that lock them to the transmission input shaft..

  • What are the basic design requirements of a clutch?

    Requirements Of Clutch:-
Torque Transmission:- The clutch should be able to maximum torque of the engine under all conditions.
It is usually designed to transmit 125 to 150 % of maximum engine torque.
Gradual Engagement:- The clutch should positively take the drive gradually without the occurrence of sudden jerks..

  • What are the design consideration of clutches?

Size restraints– The clutch or brake should be sized according to its function (stop/start or hold) and should consider any potential sizing restraints (overall diameter, length, shaft size, and weight).
Torque– The minimum required torque (and maximum, if applicable) should be considered..

  • What are the design considerations of clutches?

3 Essential Brake and Clutch Considerations for Design

Determine the Function Required for the Application. Determine Rotating Inertial Load. Size the Clutch or Brake Appropriately to the Function. Benefits of Working with SEPAC..

  • What are the design criteria of clutch?

Basic considerations in the design of clutches are discussed: friction elements during engagement, friction material, single or multiplate design, type of cooling, hardware.
After a description of the operation of clutch engagement, each is considered in turn..

  • What is the design of the clutch plate?

The clutch plate consists of two sets of facings of friction material mounted on steel cushion springs. serve to transmit the twisting force applied to the facings, to the splined hub.
The spring action serves to reduce tensional vibrations and shocks between the engine and the transmission during clutch operation..

  • Single plate clutch has one clutch plate and works on the principle of friction.
These are of two types: Helical spring type and Diaphragm spring type.
In helical spring-type clutches, the helical springs are used uniformly over the cross-sectional area of the pressure plate to exert axial force.
  • These clutches are usually made up of a stack of alternating friction plates and steel plates.
The friction plates have lugs on their outer diameters that lock them into a basket that is turned by the crankshaft.
The steel plates have lugs on their inner diameters that lock them to the transmission input shaft.
  • Working on the principle of a single plate clutch, the action force is generated by a spring, which compels the driven flange to approach the driving flange.
The surface of the drive flange is lined with friction materials like cork, leather, and asbestos.

Can non-ferrous materials be used to design a clutch plate?

The major goal of this study is to design and analyze the clutch plate using non-ferrous materials under various loads and determine the maximum stress and heat resistance of non-ferrous clutches, and offer useful substitute materials for clutches that are more cost-effective and have a longer lifespan

How to model a single plate clutch with predefined dimensions?

Modelling of the single plate clutch with predefined dimensions was done using CATIA and analysed

Aluminum alloy, E glass epoxy, and ceramic materials were selected in this study

In order to determine stresses and deformations, the clutch has undergone static, dynamic, and thermal analysis

What software is used to analyze a single plate clutch?

The study includes a stress analysis of an automobile's single plate clutch, in which it is attempted to use software to lessen the strains and forces that have built up in the clutch

Pro-E software is used for the detailed clutch study and modelling, while ANSYS software is used for the analysis

So in this paper we designed a single plate clutch by using empirical formulae. By using CATIA V5 we have created a model of single plate clutch and then imported in ANSYS workbench for analysis. We have conducted static structural analysis of clutch base and its friction plate with lining material as FTL 097.Clutch is the most significant component located between engine and gear box in automobiles. The static and dynamic analysis were developed for a clutch plate by using finite element analysis (FEA). The 3D solid model was done using CATIA V5R16 version and imported to ANSYS work bench 19.0 for structural, thermal and modal analysis.A single plate clutch is designed and modeled using Solid works 2018 software. Static analysis is done on the clutch to determine stresses and deformations using materials Ceramic, cast iron alloy, asbestos, sintered metal, kevlar and cermet. Analysis is done in Ansys 2021(R1) version. Theoretical calculation are also done to determine stresses.
Twin Clutch SST is the brand name of a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, developed by Getrag for Mitsubishi Motors.
The system was first incorporated in the 2008 Lancer Evolution X, and was designed to be a more performance-oriented system than that developed by rival manufacturers, with shorter gear ratios optimized for acceleration.
