Book writing and publishing

Can you get a book deal from a traditional publisher?

Most authors cannot, so there’s no reason to waste time trying

To get a publishing deal from a traditional publisher, you must go through these steps: Find a book agent willing to represent you and your book idea to a publisher (this is very hard, most agents get thousands of inbound requests a week)

How do I get a book published?

Once you finally have a book, look at your publishing options

Before you officially commit yourself to what could be a literary masterpiece, please keep in mind that getting a book published is not easy, especially if you want your book to be published by a major publishing company such as Penguin Books or HarperCollins

How does publishing a book work?

Publishing a book is a special, almost magical thing

Something that was in your thoughts and imagination – a new idea, some valuable information, a whole fantastical world you’ve dreamed up – gets transferred from your head into many other people’s heads, via some ink on a page or pixels on a screen

The ACT Writing and Publishing Awards are an Australian literary award presented by the ACT Writers Centre for the best books in the categories of non-fiction, fiction, poetry and children's literature written in the Canberra region.
