Aviation grade fuel

What is AVGAS fuel?

Avgas is the type of aviation fuel used in small piston engine powered aircraft within the general aviation community

These aircraft are predominantly used by private pilots and flying clubs and for tasks such as flight training and crop dusting

What octane avgas is used in aviation?

There are two main avgas grades (100 and 100LL low lead) used in the general aviation community

In each of these types, the numbers represent the octane rating

There are also other types of avgas that are either rarely used or no longer in production

The standard high-octane fuel for aviation piston engines

What type of fuel is used in aviation engines?

Aviation gasoline – Used in reciprocating or piston engines

Aviation turbine fuels (jet fuels) – Used in turbo-fan, turbo-jet, and turbo-prop engines

Within these two groups, avgas is split by octane grade and jet fuels are divided into civil and military grades

All our aviation fuels are produced to stringent manufacturing specifications

Liquid fuel used in diesel engines

Diesel fuel, also called diesel oil or historically heavy oil, is any liquid fuel specifically designed for use in a diesel engine, a type of internal combustion engine in which fuel ignition takes place without a spark as a result of compression of the inlet air and then injection of fuel.
Therefore, diesel fuel needs good compression ignition characteristics.

Petroleum product burned to generate motive power or heat

Fuel oil is any of various fractions obtained from the distillation of petroleum.
Such oils include distillates and residues.
Fuel oils include heavy fuel oil, marine fuel oil (MFO), furnace oil (FO), gas oil (gasoil), heating oils, diesel fuel, and others.
Fuel system icing inhibitor (FSII) is an additive to aviation fuels that prevents the formation of ice in fuel lines.
FSII is sometimes referred to by the registered, genericized trademark Prist.
Jet fuel can contain a small amount of dissolved water that does not appear in droplet form.
As an aircraft gains altitude, the temperature drops and the fuel's capacity to hold water is diminished.
Dissolved water can separate out and could become a serious problem if it freezes in fuel lines or filters, blocking the flow of fuel and shutting down an engine.
Synthetic fuel or synfuel is a liquid fuel

Synthetic fuel or synfuel is a liquid fuel

Fuel from carbon monoxide and hydrogen

Synthetic fuel or synfuel is a liquid fuel, or sometimes gaseous fuel, obtained from syngas, a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, in which the syngas was derived from gasification of solid feedstocks such as coal or biomass or by reforming of natural gas.
