Mel aviation example

Can a pilot fly a Mel?

The MEL allows the pilot to still fly, but with restrictions

If an aircraft has an MEL it is FAA approved

You will never find an MEL without a stamp of approval from the FAA

If it doesn’t then it’s not an MEL

I don’t know what it is, but don’t call it an MEL

Here is the top page of an MEL with the FAA prominently displayed

Does a Mel affect a plane's airworthiness requirements?

Where the State of the Operator is not the State of Registry, the State of the Operator shall ensure that the MEL does not affect the aeroplane’s compliance with the airworthiness requirements applicable in the State of Registry

(ICAO Annex 6 Part I Chapter 6 Para 6

1 1)

Will the FAA change the MMEL vs Mel issue?

The U S

FAA is set to propose a policy change to the long-running MMEL vs MEL issue faced by N-reg operators in Europe

Over the past few years, ramp checks on some U

S aircraft in Europe highlighted an important issue – EASA and the FAA have different interpretations of the ICAO standards regarding deferring aircraft discrepancies
