Step 2: Find two numbers whose product is ac and whose sum is b.
Step 3: Split the middle term as the sum of two terms using the numbers from step - 2.
To factor quadratic expressions of the form a x 2 + b x + c when a ≠ 1 , you need two numbers whose product is ac and whose sum is b.
Then, you can separate the bx-term using those two numbers, and factor by grouping.
Alternately, you can divide each of the numbers by a and put them as the 2nd term in a binomial.
