This period is known as the Cold War because there was no direct military engagement between the United States and the Soviet Union.
However, this period was anything but “cold,” as multiple countries experienced internal violence as the U.S. and the Soviets supported competing factions fighting for power.
Causes Of The Cold War Essay
The Cold War was caused by the social climate and tension in Europe at the end of World War II and by the increasing power struggles between the Soviet Union.
Economic separation between the Soviets and the west also heightened tensions, along with the threat of nuclear war.
This fierce conflict is called the "Cold War" since the two superpowers never directly engaged in combat ("hot war").
Instead, they increased their military capabilities, tried to expand their global influence, and undermined the other's way of life in the eyes of the world.
