Addressing Modes of 8086
•Addressing mode indicates a way of locating data or operands •Depending upon the data types used in the instruction and the memory addressing |
The microprocessor for 8086 instructions has 12 addressing modes.
There are several different addressing modes: instant, direct, register, register indirect, indexed, relative-based indexed, based, intra-segment direct, intra-segment indirect, inter-segment direct, and inter-segment indirect.
The most common types of addressing modes are immediate, indirect, direct, indexed, and register addressing modes.
In the immediate addressing mode, the operand field contains the operand itself, which is usually the numerical value of the operand.
The instruction MOV AX, 1234H is an example of immediate addressing mode, where the operand is a part of the instruction itself.
Examples of instructions that use immediate addressing mode are: MVI B 05 – This instruction transfers the data, that is 05, to register B.
JMP address – This instruction moves the execution of the program to the specified address.
