The git commit command captures a snapshot of the project's currently staged changes.
Committed snapshots can be thought of as “safe” versions of a project—Git will never change them unless you explicitly ask it to.
To add and commit files to a Git repository
Enter git status to see the changes to be committed.
Enter git commit -m '<commit_message>' at the command line to commit new files/changes to the local repository.
The "commit" command is used to save your changes to the local repository.
Note that you have to explicitly tell Git which changes you want to include in a commit before running the "git commit" command.
This means that a file won't be automatically included in the next commit just because it was changed.
