The PISA assessment was administered to students on computers in the United States and most of the other participating education systems. Data collection for the most recent assessment was completed in fall 2022 for the United States.
The PISA 2022 results represent outcomes from the 8th cycle of PISA since its inception in 2000 and provide a global view of U.S. students' performance compared to their peers in the 80 other participating education systems. In PISA 2022, the major domain was mathematics literacy, although reading and science literacy were also assessed.
One of the most globally recognized benchmarks is the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), a triennial survey run by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) which assesses 15-year-olds' abilities in reading, mathematics, and science. The data leveraged below is the results of the 2022 exam.
OECD member countries and Associates decided to postpone the PISA 2021 assessment to 2022 and the PISA 2024 assessment to 2025 to reflect the disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. PISA 2022 focused on mathematics, with an additional test of creative thinking.
