  • How many font sizes are available?

    The standard classes, article, report and book support 3 different font sizes, 10pt, 11pt, 12pt (by default 10pt ). The font size is set through the optional argument, e.g.: In most cases, the available font sizes for the standard classes are sufficient. Should you require a different font size for your document, use the extsizes package.

  • How do I use fontspec in latex?

    They allow you to access system fonts (TrueType, OpenType, etc) and set font features. In a typical LaTeX document, you just need to include this in your headers: \\usepackage {fontspec} \\defaultfontfeatures {Mapping=tex-text,Scale=MatchLowercase} \\setmainfont {Times} \\setmonofont {Lucida Sans Typewriter}

  • What does fontsize do?

    The anyfontsize package scales the next bigger/smaller font size available to whatever size you like. The two arguments to \\fontsize are the actual font size and the size of the baseline-skip. The baseline-skip should be set to roughly 1.2x the font size. The following example shows font size 50pt/5pt and compares them with \\Huge and \iny.

  • How does latex choose a font size?

    LaTeX normally chooses the appropriate font and font size based on the logical structure of the document (e.g. sections). In some cases, you may want to set fonts and sizes by hand. The following example shows how to use the smallest available font size in LaTeX ( \iny) and the small caps ( \extsc {...}) font style:

Setting Document Font Sizes

LaTeX uses the document class, loaded via the \\documentclasscommand, to set the default font size for various elements, such as footnotes and section headings, which form part of the document’s content. Document classes also support options for explicitly setting the font size of the main document text (and other components): For example, the artic

Latex Font Size Commands

LaTeX provides a set of 10 standard (predefined) commands to change the font size—note that document classes or LaTeX packages may redefine those commands to vary the actual point size. The following table lists those commands and their corresponding point size values for a document using 10pt for the main text font, the default setting of the arti

Latex Font Size Environments

The names of the size-changing commands listed above can be used as environments to contain text whose size you wish to change; for example: The next example shows how these environments can be nested. overleaf.com

The \\fontsize and \\selectfont Commands

The font-size commands listed in the tables above are implemented using the LaTeX commands \\fontsize and \\selectfont which can also be used to directly select a font-size and the corresponding baseline-skipsetting: The baseline-skip value determines the distance between baselines of text in a paragraph typeset using font-size; it is also stored in

Other Packages For Changing Font Size: relsize and Scalefnt

In this section we briefly review the following LaTeX packages: 1. the relsize package which provides commands to set font size relative to the currentsize; 2. the scalefnt packagethat lets you “rescale fonts to arbitrary sizes”. overleaf.com
