As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, there were 528,190 foreign students with study permits in 2020. In comparison to 2021, the number of international students holding study permits increased by approximately 15%.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 528,200 international students in 2020, representing a 17% decrease from 2019 and the first annual decline in the international student population in Canada in 20 years. The number of international students increased to 621,600 in 2021.
Thenumber of new international students (first-time study permit holders) inCanada has increased steadily since the mid-2000s, and it reached 250,020 in2019. Along with this trend, increased effortsare being made to attract international students as a potential pool ofcandidates for permanent immigration and the Canadian labour force. Tounderstand
