The following are primary indications for the use of normal saline infusion that have been approved by the FDA: Extracellular fluid replacement (e.g., dehydration, hypovolemia, hemorrhage, sepsis) Treatment of metabolic alkalosis in the presence of fluid loss.
Mild sodium depletion.
Sodium Chloride 0.45 % w/v and Glucose 5.0 % w/v solution is indicated for: - Treatment of dehydration or hypovolaemia in cases where supply of water, sodium chloride and carbohydrates is required due to restriction of the intake of fluids and electrolytes by normal routes.
Description.
Sykes 5% Dextrose and 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution intended for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply in single dose containers.
May be administered intravenously using aseptic technique.
It contains no antimicrobial agents.
Rehydration with the intravenous infusion of 5% dextrose-0.9% saline is hypothesised to result in a quicker resolution of ketonuria and generate a higher level of perceived well being compared to 0.9% saline.
