When hospitals manage hospital patient flow effectively, the health system and the patients win—hospitals don’t keep patients longer than necessary and patients spend the minimum amount of time at the hospital, making room for new patients who need care. One way for health systems to improve hospital patient flow is through machine learning (ML).
The ability of machine learning algorithms to build strong models from a large number of weakly predictive features, and to identify key factors in complex feature sets, is tested in operational problems involving hospital datasets on workflow and patient waiting time.
