The colligative properties of dilute solutions are particularly important as these provide valuable methods for finding the molecular weights of the dissolved substances. solution is equal to the mole fraction of the solute present in dilute solution.
The change in the vapor pressure that occurs when a solute is added to a solvent is therefore a colligative property.
If it depends on the mole fraction of the solute, then it must depend on the ratio of the number of particles of solute to solvent in the solution but not the identity of the solute.
The following four properties are colligative properties : (i)Lowering of vapour pressure of the solvent. (ii)Elevation in boiling point of the solvent. (iii)Depression in freezing point of solvent. (iv)Osmotic pressure.
Colligative properties are the physical changes that result from adding solute to a solvent.
Colligative Properties depend on how many solute particles are present as well as the solvent amount, but they do NOT depend on the type of solute particles, although do depend on the type of solvent.
