Teaching guide: Trace tables
This guide explains the concepts and ideas that are important to developing trace tables for algorithms in GCSE Computer Science 8525 |
1The first step of a trace table is to complete the values that are declared at the start of the algorithm.
2) We then continue to move through the algorithm.
3) The algorithm then continues, and i increments by 1 on line 12, before looping back.
4) The next step in this example is very similar to Step 3.
Whenever the value of a variable changes, the change is indicated in the trace table.
Trace tables help a programmer to determine the point in a program where a logic error has occurred.
Trace tables can be used to track the values of variables as they change throughout a program.
Trace tables are used to allow programmers to trace the value of variables as each line of code is executed.
The values of the variables are displayed in a table and assist the programmer in identifying any potential errors.
