This area of “AI for Social Impact” or “AI for Social Good” is fast emerging as a new field of scientific and technological endeavor in the use of Artificial Intelligence to solve wicked societal problems. (We choose to use the term “AI for Social Impact” to emphasize the need to achieve social impact).
How does AI affect the society?
The creation of new job opportunities AI has become increasingly important in today's world as it has the potential to revolutionize many industries, including healthcare, finance, education, and more. The use of AI has already improved efficiency, reduced costs, and increased accuracy in various fields.
Research and development Advances in AI are enabling researchers to better understand everything from the cosmos to the human body. Sifting through enormous amounts of data looking for patterns and anomalies has helped shape our understanding of galaxies as well as develop the vaccine for Covid-19.
Why is AI a societal problem?
1. Ethical considerations: AI raises numerous ethical concerns, such as the potential for biased algorithms, invasion of privacy, and the impact on employment. Researchers and developers must grapple with questions of fairness, accountability, transparency, and the responsible use of AI technologies.
AI & Society seeks to promote an understanding of the potential, transformative impacts and critical consequences of pervasive technology for societies.
