The main difference between 'even though' and 'despite' is in what they introduce. 'Even though' introduces a clause with a proper verb while 'despite' introduces a noun or noun phrase.
We use In spite of, despite and although to express contrast.
In spite of and despite are always followed by a noun, pronoun or gerund.
Although is always followed by a subject + verb.
"Although" and "even though" are conjunctions, but "despite" and "in spite of" are considered prepositions.
But since they are so similar it helps us to study them together.
We use these to say that something is surprising, unusual, or unexpected in relation to something else.
Although means "despite the fact that", even if means " whether or not".
Although and even if, though close in meaning, are not equivalent.
Although describes a factual position such as " Although he was ill, he worked hard". "Although it's raining, I'll go out for a walk".
