Students should concentrate on understanding essential topics such as computer programming, algorithms, data structures, and computational thinking.
Additionally, a solid grasp of mathematical concepts relevant to computer science, including calculus, algebra, and probability, is fundamental for success in the exams.
The A level Computer science course consists of work towards two exam papers, both worth 40% of the whole, plus non-exam assessment worth 20% which will typically be done over a period of about 3 months.
The first exam is a programming test, which some exam boards, such as the AQA, like to do using an on-screen exam.
In AS and A Level Computer Science, students learn the principles of computation and algorithms, computer programming, machine data representation, computer systems (hardware and software), computer organisation and architecture, communications and networking, databases and the consequences of using computing.
