“RADIO CHECK”.

1) To conduct a radio check, the sender will begin by calling the receiver and saying “Radio check, over.” (.
2) A response of “ROGER” indicates the transmission is loud and clear. (.
3) A response of “WEAK BUT READABLE” indicates that the transmission is weak but can be understood.
Radio check procedure
What is my signal strength and readability; how do you hear me? I have received your last transmission satisfactorily.
To be used when no reply is received from a called station.
Turn the radio to its one-watt power setting, key the microphone and call “radio check” three times followed by your boat name and location; so for example “radio check radio check radio check this is Big Daddy in North Harbor Marina.” Then wait for a reply confirming that someone has heard your transmission.
Read you loud & clear – Response to “Radio Check”.
Means your transmission signal is good.
Also use “Read you 5-by-5“.
Come in – You are asking the other party to acknowledge they hear you.
