PDF The Chi Square Test

Objectives: ➢ Construct and interpret two-way tables ➢ Describe the problem of multiple comparisons ➢ Calculate expected counts in two-way tables

  • Chi-square Test for Trend
This is applied to a two-way contingency table in which one variable has two categories and the other has multiple mutually exclusive but ordered categories, to assess whether there is a difference in the trend of the proportions in the two groups.

  • How do you interpret a chi-square test?

For a Chi-square test, a p-value that is less than or equal to your significance level indicates there is sufficient evidence to conclude that the observed distribution is not the same as the expected distribution.
You can conclude that a relationship exists between the categorical variables.

  • What is chi-square test used for?

A chi-square test is a statistical test used to compare observed results with expected results.
The purpose of this test is to determine if a difference between observed data and expected data is due to chance, or if it is due to a relationship between the variables you are studying.

  • What is the p-value in a chi-square test?

The P-value is the area under the density curve of this chi-square distribution to the right of the value of the test statistic.
The final step of the chi-square test of significance is to determine if the value of the chi-square test statistic is large enough to reject the null hypothesis.

  • In bioinformatics, the chi-squared test is used to compare the distribution of certain properties of genes (e.g., genomic content, mutation rate, interaction  Pearson's chi · Minimum chi-square estimation · Binomial test · Fisher's exact testAutres questions
