Autorité judiciaire, elle veille au respect du droit européen en contrôlant les actes des autres institutions mais aussi son application par les Etats membres.
Rôle: veiller à ce que la législation de l'UE soit interprétée et appliquée de la même manière dans tous les pays de l'UE; garantir que les pays et les institutions de l'UE respectent la législation européenne.
Membres: Cour de justice: un juge par État membre et 11 avocats généraux.
Tribunal: 2 juges par État membre.
Seuls la Commission européenne ou un État membre peuvent saisir la Cour de justice de l'Union européenne (CJUE) contre un autre État membre qui ne respecterait pas la législation européenne.
