From the Back Cover.
The Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology is the most comprehensive etymological dictionary of the English language ever published.
It is based on the original edition of The Oxford English Dictionary but much augmented by further research on the etymology of English and other languages.
The Concise Oxford English Dictionary (officially titled The Concise Oxford Dictionary until 2002, and widely abbreviated COD or COED) is one of the best-known of the 'smaller' Oxford dictionaries.
The latest edition contains over 240,000 entries and 1,728 pages ("concise" compared to the OED at over 21,000 pages).
