EXPRESSIONS FOR DISCUSSION AND DEBATE 1 Asking someone for their opinion about a topic Yes/No Questions § Do you believe in ? § Do you believe in ? § Do

  • What is a good opening sentence for a debate?

Your first line should state exactly what your side is arguing, e.g: “We believe the abortion should be legal” or “We believe that abortion shouldn't be legal.” The rest of the statement needs to summarize in persuasive language why your position is the strongest.

  • How do you start a debate starting line?

You can start your speech with a powerful quote.
It will hook the audience instantly.

The audience must understand the topic of your debate.
