The report — previously called "Juvenile Offenders and Victims" — provides juvenile justice practitioners and policymakers with information on youth and their involvement with the juvenile justice system through the 2019 data year. This guide addresses reasons for differences in mental health etiology and outcomes among youth.
Education in juvenile facilities is often substandard and youth in adult facilities may receive no education at all. Youth in short-term facilities also may fail to receive educational services or receive much less instructional time than youth in public school.
Over 60,000 youth receive correctional education in juvenile justice facilities each year. Education in juvenile facilities is often substandard and youth in adult facilities may receive no education at all.
Since the administration of education in juvenile justice facilities varies by state (The Council of State Governments Justice Center, 2015), no generalized qualification standards are required to teach in these facilities.
