prop 65 lead and cadmium limits

What are the consequences of exceeding the Proposition 65 limit for lead?

Exposure to lead during pregnancy can affect brain development and cause learning and behavior problems for the child. Exposure to lead can harm the reproductive systems of men and women. Lead and lead compounds also are on the Proposition 65 list because they can cause cancer. Exposure to lead and lead compounds may increase cancer risk.

What is the safe harbor level for lead under Proposition 65?

The proposition 65 lead limit for supplements is 0.5 mcg per day. The EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) safe lead limit for drinking water is 15 mcg/L. This means that approximately one-fourth cup of the water considered safe by the EPA would bring you beyond the safe daily limit, according to Prop 65 (3).

What is Proposition 65?

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 ("Proposition 65") is an initiative statute that protects public health by reducing exposures to toxic chemicals in two principal ways. First, it outlaws discharges of certain toxic chemicals into sources of drinking water.
