- Housing Advice The right to adequate housing is a fundamental human right derived from the right to an adequate standard of living. This fundamental human right is incorporated in legislation in countries such as South Africa and Canada and in the constitutions of other countries such as Finland.
How much housing is needed in Wales?
- This report presents new estimates of the need and demand for housing in Wales over the period 2011 to 2031. Based on official projections for household formation, it is estimated that Wales will need an additional 174,000 units between 2011 and 2031 (8,700 a year) to avoid households living in unsatisfactory housing (see Table 36).

- The Welsh Housing Quality Standard (the Standard) above was introduced in 2002 and revised guidance issued in 2008 (supported by Housemark). This is the minimum standard that all social housing in Wales should meet as soon as possible, but in any event by 2020 at the latest.
