- Implement an intervention method: Many schools use the Response to Intervention (RTI) approach, which has three tiers to address the needs of all students in a general classroom environment. An intervention teacher uses the criteria of each tier to identify students who may need additional help.
What is the difference between RTI and special education?
- RtI is a regular education initiative. It is meant for all students. RtI is not special education. My RtI packets are developed to be utilized by classroom teachers. Students with communication impairments, much like other academic content areas, require Response to Intervention services provided by the classroom teacher.
How can RTI help students with reading difficulties?
- In addition to helping students with reading difficulties, RTI was a way to increase adequate yearly progress school reports. At all tiers, I used strategies that provided students with what they needed instructionally. Using student data, I determined the learning needs of students at each tier.
How can RTI help Tier 3 students?
- An example of intervention for Tier 3 students was to focus on building their phonemic awareness, speed and verbal memory. RTI can make a difference in students’ academic success. Making reading fun and meaningful is rewarding for the students and for the teacher as well.
