    Secondary memory is computer memory that is non-volatile and persistent in nature and is not directly accessed by a computer/processor. It allows a user to store data that may be instantly and easily retrieved, transported and used by applications and services. Secondary memory is also known as secondary storage.

What is the difference between primary and secondary memory?

    Primary memory (RAM) is faster but does not store data permanently, instead of loading secondary memory slower data in the primary memory to make efficient use of it. Unlike primary memory, secondary memory also does not access the CPU directly from the computer.

What are the different types of secondary memory?

    Secondary memory is also known as external memory or auxiliary memory that is capable to store data in gigabytes and terabytes. It is also known as backup storage or mass storage media. Examples of Secondary memory are Magnetic tapes, Hard Disc, Compact Disk, Pen drive, Flash Drive, SSDs, Optical drives etc.

How much storage capacity does secondary memory have?

    Secondary memory is slower than primary memory but can store and retain data, even if the computer is not connected to electrical power. It also has substantial storage capacities, ranging from megabytes to several terabytes of storage space within single memory.
