— (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Copyright and Rights in Databases Regulations 1997. (2) These Regulations come into force on 1st January 1998. (3) These Regulations extend to the whole of the United Kingdom.

The Canadian Copyrights Database includes all copyrights that have been registered since October 1, 1991, pursuant to the Copyright Act. Some grant of interest registrations prior to 1991 may be included in the Database. This database is for information purposes only and business decisions should not be made based on this search alone.
What regulations apply to databases made before or after the 1st January 1998?
These Regulations apply to databases made before and after the 1st January 1998. However, there is a general saving in relation to agreements made before commencement; in particular acts done in pursuance of such agreements whether before or after commencement are not regarded as infringing database right (regulations 27 and 28).
