The basis of acting is action not emotion. The basic premise behind the psycho-physical technique is that if you take care of the actions in such a way that they are fully justified by the given circumstances, then the emotion will take care of itself.

For more than 2,000 years, acting was not taught; it was passed down from the master to the apprentice. An aspiring actor would learn by doing and by watching. Acting styles were determined in direct response to the physical and technical realities of the spaces in which actors performed.
What is method acting?
Method acting is a technique where actors inhabit, on a psychological level, the persona of a fictional character. Rather than consciously reciting lines and actions, they’re internalizing the expression of that character. The System led to a renaissance in on-camera acting in the ’50s, making room for hyper-realistic performances.
