aggregate functions in sql with examples ppt
What is aggregate function in SQL with example?
An aggregate function in SQL performs a calculation on multiple values and returns a single value.
SQL provides many aggregate functions that include avg, count, sum, min, max, etc.
An aggregate function ignores NULL values when it performs the calculation, except for the count function. The GROUP BY clause causes the rows of the items table to be collected into groups, each group composed of rows that have identical order_num values (that is, the items of each order are grouped together).
After the database server forms the groups, the aggregate functions COUNT and SUM are applied within each group.
Is it possible to use GROUP BY without aggregate function?
Although most of the times GROUP BY is used along with aggregate functions, it can still still used without aggregate functions — to find unique records.
For example, suppose you want to retrieve all the unique combinations of Sales_Manager and Product_Category.
