What database does Twitter use?

Twitter was built on MySQL and originally all data was stored on it. We went from a small database instance to a large one, and eventually many large database clusters. Manually moving data across MySQL instances requires a lot of time consuming hands on work, so in April 2010 we introduced Gizzard – a framework for creating distributed datastores.

What services does Twitter provide?

Storage and messaging represents 45% of Twitter’s infrastructure footprint. The storage and messaging teams provide the following services: Blobstore clusters for all our large objects (videos, pictures, binary files…) While there are a number of different challenges at this scale multi-tenancy is one of the more notable ones we’ve had to overcome.

Twitter has been one of the most blooming instant short messaging services that connects a person with several related issues and people across the world. The company thou started operating early, it was not able to make any kind of the remarkable profits till the fourth quarter of 2017 and was able to make a full year profit in 2018.

We handle over a trillion messages per day and all of these are processed into over 500 categories, consolidated and then and selectively copied across all our clusters.
