What are AF customs & courtesies?
AF customs and courtesies include saluting a higher ranking officer, paying respect to the U.S. Flag or Air Force Song, and the way one should or should not behave whether in uniform or not. A salute is a courteous exchange of greetings. When saluting, the junior member always salutes the senior first.
Why are customs and courtesies important?
Customs and courtesies help make life orderly and are a way of showing respect. Customsareregular,expectedactions.Theyhave been repeated again and again and passed from one generation to the next. Courteous actions show your concernandrespectforothersandforcertainobjectsor symbols, such as the American flag.
Is courtesy practiced in the military?
Inthemilitaryservice,andparticularlyintheNavy where personnel live and work in close quarters, courtesy is practiced both on and off duty.
Does rendering courtesies apply to military uniforms?
Rendering courtesies also applies to the U.S. Flag, National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, Air Force Song, and other services. All military personnel in uniform outside must face the flag and salute during the raising and lowering of the flag.
