The mass depletion of pure silver coupons was directly related with the cleaning methods. The ideal cleaning method should be able to remove tarnishing without losing a significant amount of the base metal. The most abrasive method was MT, which removed ∼1.0% of mass after 6 cycles of tarnishing and cleaning in pure silver coupons ( Fig. 7 a).
