  • The Distribution Unit (DU) acts as an intermediate layer, handling baseband signal processing, protocol termination, data forwarding, and synchronization.
    It optimizes data and control signal transmission between the core network and the radio interface.

  • What is the gNB architecture in 5G?

    The 5G New Radio (NR) gNB (gNodeB) logical architecture is a key element in the 5G network that provides radio access to user devices.
    The gNB is responsible for the transmission and reception of radio signals, as well as managing the radio resources within the 5G network.

  • What is the interface between CU and DU in 5G?

    Each DU is able to support one or more cells, so one gNB can control hundreds of cells unlike the 4G BTS.
    Also, note that the interface between CU and DU is named F1 and as per 3GPP, it should be an open interface, so you connect one CU from vendor X to another DU from vendor Y.
