What are air quality dispersion models?
Air quality dispersion models predict the impact of pollutants released from various sources such as power plants and roadways. The models are used by EPA, states, tribes and local agencies to assess control strategies, regulate emissions, and evaluate mitigation options, particularly during the planning and permitting phases of projects.
What are air quality models?
Air quality models (AQMs) are useful for studying various types of air pollutions and provide the possibility to reveal the contributors of air pollutants. Existing AQMs have been used in many scenarios having a variety of goals, e.g., focusing on some study areas and specific spatial units.
How can air quality models be used during the permitting process?
For example, air quality models can be used during the permitting process to verify that a new source will not exceed ambient air quality standards or, if necessary, determine appropriate additional control requirements.
