Is Airbus going to make a A220 500?
Analysts from the Bank of America have suggested that Airbus may unveil a larger version of its A220 aircraft as early as next month.
The European aircraft manufacturer may take advantage of the 2023 Paris Air Show, which takes place from June 19th through June 25th, to introduce the A220-500 to the world.
Did Airbus change the A220?
Airbus has also tweaked the maximum zero-fuel weights (58t and 52.6t) and landing weights (61t and 54.7t) of each variant.
Dewar says the changes align the A220 with the range of the larger Airbus single-aisle jets. “That's been tremendously popular with customers,” he says.
What is the range of an A220?
The aircraft family offers maximum take-off weights from 63.1 to 70.9 t (139,000 to 156,000 lb), and cover a 3,450–3,600 nmi (6,390–6,670 km; 3,970–4,140 mi) range.
Both launch operators recorded better-than-expected fuel burn and dispatch reliability, as well as positive feedback from passengers and crew.
Meanwhile, the competitive Airbus A220-100 (100 to 125 passengers depending on configuration) only requires a runway of 1,463 m (4,800 ft).

Breeze Airways founder David Neeleman has been pitching the idea to Airbus for years, since the extended range would allow his airline to fly transatlantic routes with the A220. Airbus increased the range of the aircraft once, in 2019, by 450 nm, and the A220-300 can now fly up to 3,400 nm.
