What is a good Brix level?
You might be wondering which Brix value is right for your plant.
For most plants, the rule of thumb is that a value of 10 or lower may point to a nutrient deficiency.
A Brix value of 12 or higher indicates a healthy plant.
For some fruits the optimal value may be much higher.
What is the Brix scale for sweetness?
The Brix scale is used to measure sugar content in substances such as soft drinks, fruit juices and tomato concentrates, as well as products such as cutting oil, which are very often far away from pure sucrose/water solutions.
Is 14 Brix Sweet?
In general, the higher the Brix level, the sweeter the solution, though factors like acidity will also play a role in the experience of sweetness.
For example, pink grapefruit has an average Brix of 10─14 which is nearly identical to fresh raspberries, which fall into the 8–14 Brix range.
The objective way to measure brix is with handheld devices, like the F-750 Produce Quality Meter, which use Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS).
With the F-750, light is sent into the fruit, then based on the light's interaction with it, a degrees Brix measurment is determined.

Degrees Brix, usually shortened to "Brix", refers to a scale of measurement for soluble solids in a liquid. In the juices of fruits and vegetables, soluble solids are mostly sugars, and the Brix measurement approximates the sugar content of a sample; 20 Brix means approximately 20% sugar, for example.
