What is Brix refractometer used for?
A refractometer is an optical instrument to measure the Brix level in fruits, vegetables, juices, jams, wines and beers.
It is a standard technique based on the measurement of the refractive index of the liquid.Are all Brix refractometers the same?
There are two main designs of Brix refractometers, i.e., optical or digital devices.
While both types work using the same principle, they operate slightly differently.
Each type of refractometer also subdivides down into sub-groups.It can be calculated by dividing the dissolved solids by the sum of the dissolved solids plus the water, all multiplied by 100.
That is, Bx = (Ds x 100)/(Ds + w), where Ds is the weight of dissolved solids and w is weight of water. (Note that suspended solids do not enter into the equation for calculating Brix.)
Is Brix refractometer accurate?
Highly accurate with only a small sample size required, this meter makes measuring Brix simple with its two-button operation.
Its IP65 rating means it will perform well in the harsh field or laboratory environments.
