Are passengers aware of the EU's passenger rights framework?
In a 2014 Eurobarometer survey on passenger rights 31 % of passengers responded that they were aware of the EU’s passenger rights framework and 35 % of respondents indicated that they had already submitted a complaint after experiencing transport disruption4.
Why is the European Commission seeking public views on passenger rights?
The European Commission is seeking the public's views in order to consolidate and simplify the EU's laws on passenger rights, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and make it more fit for future crises. Today, the European Parliament took the final step to modernising rail passenger rights within the EU.
What are passenger rights based on?
Passenger rights are based on three cornerstones: non-discrimination; accurate, timely and accessible information; immediate and proportionate assistance. The following ten rights that stem from these principles form the core of EU passenger rights:
