  • Are Argos locations better than fastloc-GPS locations?

    Poor-quality Argos locations (e.g., location classes A, B) produced home range estimates ranging from 10 to 100 times larger than those derived from Fastloc-GPS data, whereas high-quality Argos locations (location classes 1–3) produced home range estimates that were generally comparable to those derived from Fastloc-GPS data.

  • What are the benefits of fastloc?

    One of the other benefits of Fastloc is its minimal power consumption allowing its use on the smallest, least invasive tags possible. Wildlife Computers uses Fastloc technology in many of its tags and form factors. Details on how to process Fastloc location data using the Data Portal can be found in our User Guide.

  • What is the residual value of fastloc-GPS locations?

    The deviation (in metres) of Fastloc-GPS locations from the true position for 45 157 Fastloc-GPS locations as a function of their residual value. The residual value is used as a quality index by the manufacturers to filter and remove a fraction of the locations with low accuracy.

  • What is an example of a fastloc GPS?

    An example is Fastloc GPS, an algorithm which has greatly increased the applicability of GPS devices [ 11, 12 ]. Fastloc locations were initially developed for marine species that surface only briefly, but are typically less accurate than standard GPS locations [ 13 ].
