chromatic harmonica scales
Is a chromatic harmonica 12 or 16 holes?
In the standard 12-hole chromatic in C the lowest note is middle C, while 16-hole variants start one octave lower.
For the 16-hole variant, the layout is usually as follows.
Note that the "D" in the last key-in draw note is common, though by no means present in all chromatic harmonicas.Chromatic harmonicas are designed to play every complete scale in any key — major, minor, pentatonic, blues, etc. — all on one instrument.
Additionally, all accidental notes are available at any time for any situation.
Each single hole contains four reeds; two natural notes and two chromatic notes.
Which scale is best in harmonica?
I recommend you start with a harmonica in the key of C for several reasons.
Most importantly, a C harmonica will enable you to be in tune with the majority of beginning level harmonica lessons.
What is the best key for a chromatic harmonica?
C is the best key to get started because the length of the reeds is average and it's also the most common key in music.
Out of all 12 keys a diatonic blues harmonica in G has the longer reeds and a harmonica in F# has the shortest reeds, and C is right in the middle for reed length.
