Why did Éluard re-distribute his poems?
For Miró "Poetry and painting are done in the same way you make love; it's an exchange of blood, a total embrace - without caution, without any thought of protecting yourself" and within this fertile mood of collaboration, Éluard re-distributed the lines of his poems, leaving white spaces for Miró to embellish.
Who is Paul Éluard?
With that in mind, I undertook to translate two poems by Paul Éluard a French surrealist poet who wrote between and during the two world wars in which he was involved either as a soldier or as a member of the French resistance. Éluard ’s language is very crisp, with an economy of words that leave several ambiguities.
Why did Paul Éluard write 'Liberty'?
I first chose Paul Éluard ’s “ Liberté ” (“ Liberty ”), written and published in 1942 while active in the French resistance. The poem became a symbol at the time of the refusal by French intellectuals to submit to the oppression of the occupation.
