    Therefore, there is a need for the development of new reagents and/or methods for the synthesis of amides. This report describes a new method for amide synthesis which is green, widely applicable, simple and scalable which we have also applied to the preparation of carbamates and ureas.

    Efficient synthesis of amides directly from esters and amines is achieved under mild, neutral conditions with the liberation of molecular hydrogen. Both primary and secondary amines can be utilized.

  • How are amide bonds formed?

    There are many methods available for the formation of amides, but on paper the most common and simplest approach for amide bond formation is generally a condensation reaction between a carboxylic acid and an amine. Although a very simple concept the initial reaction is an acid base reaction leading to an ammonium salt which is quite stable .
