  • How do i know which COVID variant i have?

When you receive a COVID-19 test, you won't find out which variant caused your infection.
That's because COVID-19 tests only detect the presence of the virus – they don't determine the variant.
Genomic sequencing looks at the genetic code of the virus to determine which variant caused the infection.

  • What are the variants of COVID-19?

The main variant in the United States is omicron.
This variant spreads more easily than the original virus that causes COVID-19 and the delta variant.
But omicron seems to cause less severe disease.
Omicron has a few major offshoots, also called sublineages.

  • Does COVID-19 have more varieties or strains?

If a virus has a random change that makes it easier to infect people and it spreads, that variant will become more common.
All viruses, including coronaviruses, can change over time, and there have been several variants already that have contributed to the pandemic.

  • This summer, that strain is called EG. 5, or, informally, Eris (nicknamed after the Greek goddess of strife and discord).
A descendant of Omicron, Eris is already the dominant coronavirus subvariant in the country, infecting more people than any other single strain.

22 avr. 2020 · The team identified more than 30 different mutations of the virus, wherein 19 were never seen before. There are only 6 strains of covid-19.Autres questions
